Bible Prophecy in today’s news. Russia and Iran in Bible Prophecy:

Did you know that the Bible tells us that Iran and Russia along with other Middle Eastern Islamic nations will have a major role in bringing about what will be World War III. The Bible names the nations of Russia, Iran and Iraq, Turkey, Syria and others. We’re told these nations will set out to annihilate Israel. What we are seeing now is the beginning stages, the formation of what we see prophesied in Ez. 38 & 39 as well as Psalm 83, Joel 3 and Isaiah 17.

 

Ezekiel 38: 1The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of  Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of  Meshech and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.

"Magog" is an ancient name for the nation now known as Russia. "Gog" means "the chief prince of Magog," the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. (Ez. 38:2-3; 39:1). "Gog" signifies a prince, or head, today we would say president or prime minister. The word translated "chief" in Ezekiel 38:2-3 literally means in Hebrew the "top" or "head".

The name "Moscow" derives from the tribal names "Meshech," and "Tobolsk," the name from "'Tubal." Magog became "Rosh," then "Russ," and today is known as "Russia." In this name we have the first historical trace of the Russ or Russian nation. Genesis 10 gives the descendants of Noah’s sons. Genesis 10 and 1 Chron. 1 helps to establish the identity of these people. Magog, Gomer, Meshech, and Tubal are four of the seven sons of Japheth. Magog was the second son of Japheth. Tubal and Meshech were the fifth and sixth sons of Japheth. “Meshech” was founder of the Moshci who dwelt in the Moschian mountains. "Moschi," derived from the Hebrew name Meshech is the source of the name for the city of Moscow. “Tubal” was the founder of the Tebereni people. Magog, Meshech, and Tubal make up the modern Russian people and compose the present land of Russia.

One of the clues to whom and where Magog is, is its geographic location in relation to Israel. Ezekiel said this army would come from the far North. If you take a map and draw a line straight up from Jerusalem you will come to Russia and Moscow. Meshech is an ancient name for Moscow. The name "Moscow" derives from the tribal names "Meshech," and "Tobolsk," the name from "'Tubal." Magog became "Rosh," then "Russ," and today is known as "Russia."

For the sake of space I won’t go into detail of the nations mentioned coming with Russia, but something to take note of, with the exception of Gomer, the characteristic these nations have in common coming with Magog is their religion, they're all Muslim.

​

Persia is Iran (Persia included the areas of Iraq and Afghanistan). I believe it was in 1938 when Persia changed their name to Iran. The people still refer to themselves as Persians.

​

Cush is now Ethiopia (Black African Nations)

​

Put is now Libya (Arabic African Nations)

​

Gomer with all Its Troups(Hordes) Germany (Old Iron Curtain Countries)

​

Togarmah from the far north with all its troops(Hordes) (Southern Russia and the Cossacks) includes Turkey

The Many Nations with You

Ezekiel indicates that he hasn’t given a complete list of allies. This Russian ruler is commanded to 'Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them (Ezek. 38:7). NIV. This Russian ruler is to equip the nations with him and to take command of them.

​

The word against Gog of the land Magog.

​

Ez. 38: 14 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it? 15 You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. 16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.

17 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You are the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel. At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. 18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. 19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground.

Look at what Ez. 38 verses 21 & 22 says, 21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man's sword will be against his brother. 22 I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. …. And Ez. 39 v4. 4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals.  …. The northern part of Israel is very mountainous. We know it today as the Golan Heights. These verses sound like a good description of nuclear strikes and their effects. We see the same descriptions in Revelation.

Read what verses 7 thru 9 say.

Ez. 38: 7 "'Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them. 8 After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety. 9 You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

As you can see, this describes Israel today perfectly. No one lived in the land of Israel from 70 a.d. when the Roman army destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple thus scattering the Jews out amongst the nations until the Jews started returning in the late 1800’s and really started in greater numbers after World War I and World War II. Israel became a nation again May of 1948. Since an invasion like what is described by Ezekiel has never happened in Israel’s history, this has to be for a yet future time. 

​

Most scholars believe this invasion will take place in the first half of the Tribulation after the Rapture, after the anti-Christ has come to power and seemingly to have brought peace to the Middle East and made it possible for Israel to rebuild the Temple, after the anti-Christ, the Islamic nations and Israel have signed the 7 year covenant peace agreement. This invasion could be the 2nd seal of Revelation chapter 6 for the horse is red, the color that represents Russia. Some also believe the 4th horse of which the Greek word of its color means green or pale green represents the Islamic nations for the color of Islam is a green color. Of the 4th horse he says its rider is named death and hell is following close behind him. This is defiantly a good description of Islamic terrorist or Jihadist. But they are some that believe this could occur before the Rapture, before the Tribulation, that it could at least begin before the Tribulation. I guess will just have to wait and see.

What we are seeing now is the beginning stages, the formation of what we see prophesied in Ez. 38 & 39 as well as Psalm 83, Joel 3 and Isaiah 17.

 

Look at what Psalm 83 says,

3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. 

4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you

Look at what Joel said,

​

Joel 3: 2 I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.

​

What we see here from Psalm 83, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more" and Joel 3, to “divided up the land of Israel” is exactly what we see the Islamic nations are saying and want today.  All the world is saying divide the land and give it to the so called Palestinians, and now there are those even in the United States pushing for this.

There’s a prophecy concerning Damascus, the capitol of Syria, and this is where Russia is now and many terrorist groups.

​

Isaiah 17: 1 An oracle concerning Damascus:  "See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. … 14 In the evening, sudden terror! Before the morning, they are gone!

​

Jeremiah 49: 24 Damascus has become feeble, she has turned to flee and panic has gripped her; anguish and pain have seized her, pain like that of a woman in labor. … 26 Surely, her young men will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day," declares the LORD Almighty. 27 "I will set fire to the walls of Damascus; will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad."

Damascus is one of the oldest existing cities in the world. These verses would tend to point to a future event due to the fact that Damascus has never been totally destroyed as Isaiah 17 describes. It sounds like it will be destroyed by a nuclear strike. …. This hasn’t been reported in the media, but they now have evidence that all the chemical and nuclear weapons that were in Iraq were smuggled into Syria. Could it be that Damascus will be destroyed by a nuclear strike or could the terrorist mess up and set one off? So keep your eyes on Damascus.

​

Psalm 83 mentions an attack from the nations that boarder Israel. It uses their ancient names. Ezekiel didn’t name the nations that border Israel. Could it be that there will be a battle between Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan against Israel before the invasion by Russia mentioned here in Ezekiel, before the tribulation and before the Rapture. They could be part of the “many nations with you” Ezekiel 38 verse 6. If there is a pre-Russian attack on Israel Iran could be part of it or at least backing them up. With the exception of Jordan, Iran is already allied, supplying arms to these countries. If these nations do turn out to be a pre-Russian attack, they will be defeated. That could be why Russia winds up leading the invasion described here in Ezekiel. So keep your eye on Damascus and the Middle East.

Isn’t it interesting that all these countries have terrorist groups. Hamas is in Gaza and Hezbollah is in Lebanon. Damascus is the capital of Syria which has thousands of terrorist. All these terrorist groups are a threat to Israel. Israel has already given up Gaza and what do they get in return for it, thousands of rocket missiles shot into Israel from Gaza every year. This should show that Israel giving up land is not going to bring peace. With the threat that these terrorist groups pose to Israel it just seems like Israel is going to have to do something and before these groups and countries get nuclear weapons, especially before Iran does. Iran’s supreme leader has been publicly saying that he wants to wipe Israel off the map and when he gets a nuclear missile he will use it against Israel. And now Turkey has joined them. As I said above, all the Nations of the world are calling for Israel to give up land and divide Jerusalem, even in the United States government there’s now many no longer backing Israel and calling for Israel to give up land and divide Jerusalem, giving land and part of Jerusalem to the so called Palestinians. And you see all of this foretold in the Bible.

Look at what the Lord said to Abraham which is addressing the people of Israel.

​

Gen. 12: 3 I will bless those who bless you,
   and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
   will be blessed through you.”

​

We see that anyone or any country that comes against Israel will bring themselves under a curse straight from the Lord himself. That includes the United States too. The reference to all peoples on earth will be blessed through you is of course referring to the Messiah, it is referring to Jesus.

​

It should be obvious from Bible prophecy that we are indeed living in the last of the last days, just how close to all these things starting we don’t know, but with the way things are falling into place and the way the whole world is towards Israel it doesn’t seem like it could be much longer. It’s more important now than ever to have your life right with the Lord, or you could find yourself here going through all of it.
